English : A Story Essay

By The Name of Allah The Almighty and The Most Merciful

Hi everyone :)
This is an essay that I had wrote during the 3rd examination for this year. It is not really great as the essay is too long just for 20 marks. However, I just feel like sharing it. Feel free to comment.

Oh, and do know that for a short essay prompt, such as one that requires you to write an essay of about 300 words in length, a short and sweet composition would be the best. Don't be like me >.<
Somehow, I have the tendency to make it long, which is not really good.

Happy reading :)

(   a)   Write a story ending with ‘…Reduce, reuse, recycle’

“Fazli!”, a sharp voice pierced through my slightly small pair of ears, heading straight to my brain, getting in-queue for translation. I simply ignored the call as I was all ears to the dialogues which were being spoken by the characters in my favourite cartoon series which is Naruto. However, the same call seemed to bug me again right after the short pause. “Fazli! Fazli! Boy, what are you doing? I was calling your name but you don’t even responded? Is this the way those prefects at Sekolah Alam Shah taught you to behave? “BANGG! Mom’s voice was like a furious thunder that strike through the thin atmosphere right to my head. Luckily, I was already used to that magnitude of sound wave from listening to some rock songs from my laptop. “Yes mom, what is it this time? I’m sorry that I didn’t respond to your call. I was totally astonished and amazed by the fantasy computer-generated graphics of the cartoon that I didn’t even noticed your lovely voice. Heheh.  I’m sorry mom.” As usual, mom will forgive me right away after hearing some nice and polite words coming out from my mouth. She always had a soft spot for me as I am the Benjamin of the family.

“ Oh, never mind my lovely son. Perhaps it was not your fault either. Maybe I should had went straight to you instead of shouting your name from the kitchen. Well, can you go back to Pak Abu’s grocery? It is not a stone-thrown away from our house but the goods being sold there are dirt cheap compared to those at the other stores. I don’t even have the intention to put much burden on you but I just want to save some money for a rainy day.” Mom’s explanation was as long as usual. The prices of household things were hiking up so she expected our family to be more thrift. I wanted to make it short so I just agreed to help. At a drop of a hat, I snapped my cap as it was quite a sunny day. Without wasting any time, I went straight to Pak Abu’s grocery as being told by mum. Chewing a candy, I was a little bit bugged by the waves of blazing rays being emitted by the big fiery ball dubbed as the Sun. Lady luck was indeed on my side as the cotton candy-like clouds that were hanging steadily on the turquoise azure blocked some of the rays. Later, I reached the store and quickly brought the things that mom asked me to. I also brought a packet of snack along with a can of carbonated drink from the extra money that she gave me earlier. Then, I went through the same path to go home while savouring the light snacks that I have bought. I don’t like to keep the plastic bags and wrappers in my pocket so I just threw them away wherever I liked.

After about 10 minutes of walking, I was finally home. Mom was happy to get the things that she needed to cook for our dinner that day. I don’t really had anything to do. I didn’t want to continue watching the television as my favourite show had ended. I was brainstorming for some ideas on what to do during that time but eventually, I jumped straight onto my bed and ended up hitting the sack although it was only 2.30 in the afternoon. I didn’t really remember what kind of journey that I had in my dream. All I was clear about was that it ended up with myself being chased by a giant turtle. It was very frightening and real that I immediately woke up from my slumber. As I got up, I saw myself sweating, panting and gasping for some air. My heart was beating vigorously like a war drum too. I looked around and immediately caught a glimpse of the stationary fan. No wonder it was so hot that my shirt was already wet. I went to the bathroom and took a shower. While I was enjoying the cool, refreshing water, the thought of the giant turtle in my dream immediately came to mind. I wondered how in the world could I be dreaming of a giant turtle. “Hm, perhaps it was just a bad dream as I was uncomfortable during the sleep”, I said to myself just to clear the thought out of my mind.

Later, I went downstairs to the living room, only to find that my father was reading a newspaper. “Hey son, what have you been doing? It was weird not to see you watching the television when I was back earlier” , said dad. “ Well dad, I just fell asleep.” I don’t really had the mood to talk so I just sat at the sofa nearby. However, it was weird to see my dad getting back home that early. It was only 4.00 in the evening. He should had still be at his workplace. “Perhaps, there is something wrong happening. Dad won’t come back this early unless there is something really important around.” I started to feel uneasy. Insecure. Yes, maybe that was the best word to describe my feeling at that time. Later on, mom came and sat beside dad. Things were starting to get really intimidating for me. The looks in their eyes were full of fury. They were beaming with hatred and I didn’t really had the courage to look at them in the eyes. In the end, mom and dad shed some light to clear up the confusion that had been enveloping my head. Actually, they were angry because our family’s pet turtle, Dahlia had kicked the bucket from suffocation. It suffocated right after it chewed a small plastic bag, which happened to be thrown by me into the pond. The thought of myself being a murderer shook my feelings. I’d never thought that simple, reckless habit of mine could have killed. Pond of tears was seen in my eyes which had already started turning red.

Mom and dad had really hit the roof on that day. I was also scolded for some other reasons. They told me that I was too ignorant that I always get rid of things that could still be useful and things that could bring hazard to the environment. I was also canned by my father. That was  the first time he ever got angry to that extent. I started to realize about the consequences of  all of the mistakes that I had been doing in the past. I get rid of plastic bags which were still reusable. I burnt all of the old newspaper instead of recycling them. I only wrote on a side of papers instead of using both sides. I even realized the reason behind the incident of being chased by the giant turtle in my dream. Things were clear then and the clearest thing was none other than the fact that I was the one to be blamed. From that on, I turned over a new leaf. Nowadays, I try my best to reduce the usage of non-renewable resources as well as reusing and recycling them. The Earth is already old and bleeding. So does the Mother Nature. Therefore, before the nature unleashes its wrath upon us, I do think that we as humans should really take a good care of it. On that day, the biggest lesson that I had learnt was to apply the major rules of 3R in myself which are none other than ‘ Reuse, Reduce, Recycle ‘ .
