Annual Uniformed Bodies Camp 2013 Part II

9:47 PM

By The Name of Allah The Almighty and The Most Merciful

Later in the evening, we went for a jungle trekking! We were walking in a single file with a local man as the lead. The girls went off first, followed by the boys and some of the facilitators. Well, they are being shielded by so many men that I bet that they would had felt safe, of course xD The early part of the track was relatively an easy brisk walk. As we went deeper into the jungle, it was getting darker as the thick canopy layer prevented the sunlight from reaching into the lower part of the jungle. We even had to walk up and down then up again until we reached the top which appeared to be the rest spot for the adventure.

While resting, we were introduced to 2 types of herbal plants which were - Pohon Kapal Terbang or also known as pohon jepun by the Kelantanese. It seemed and smelled kinda familiar to me as my grandmother is an expert in this kind of stuff and she had many kinds of herbal trees planted around her house. The leaves of this plant can be used to treat wounds and increase the rate of blood clotting which are useful especially when were are going for an adventure in the jungle. Next up is the Senduduk Unggu plant. It has a purple flower, hence the name Senduduk Unggu. The function is quite the same. The leaves of the plant, once squashed and applied to the wounds can stop the blood flow in a matter of seconds, said the ex-army man.

Later, another local man gave us a demonstration on making a piggy bank using a bamboo. It was a live demonstration and I was amazed by the way he handled the sharp knife in cutting, shaping and decorating the bamboo piggy bank. From the way he handled it, I could assume that he had been used to it for perhaps, more than 20 years. Even cutting the bamboo was just like slicing a paper to him. I was totally marveled, so do my friends ( especially the girls ) I can totally read it from the expressions on their face xD

Being a gentleman :D

I was imagining myself learning and practicing those survival skills in the time to come. Somehow, I had the mindset that stated , it is must for a man like me to learn those kind of things and we would never really know what might happen in the future. By having those skills, it would really be of help in times of crisis or even just to be applied when we'll be going for an adventure or outdoor activities. Well, just saying. Plus, I believe that a man will look more manly with those kind of skills. Again, just saying :)

Later, we moved on. This time, we expected the journey to be much easier than before as we don't really had to oppose the gravity again by going up. Soon, we were kinda surprised as we needed to walked really carefully down the mountain as it was really steep. The girls were walking with their hands holding on to one another. Some of the boys also did the same thing. I was at the back of the line and the local man said something like, " Eh, korang semua ni lelaki mana boleh jalan pegang tangan. Cuba jalan mengiring macam ketam, baru tak jatuh " And guess what? I did the same thing as he told. So does my friends who were also at the back. Surprisingly, it worked out. By walking side to side just like a crab can actually prevent us from falling down when were going down the mountain. Amir even mentioned something about applying the physics that we had learnt in class by lowering our body to lower our centre of gravity. We chit chatted on, took some pictures and sometimes laughed until we were back at the campsite. Oh, and a cute kitten seemed to followed us all the way from the other village. I had to carry it half-way though as some of the track was kinda dangerous for the little kitten.

Le cute kitten :)

By 6.30 p.m, we were back at our starting point. We gathered and had a head count just to make sure everyone is here. So there goes the one, two, three, four, five, six, seven until 102. Alhamdulillah, it seemed that everyone was there and surprisingly, there was an extra member of the squad. Who you ask? Well, it was none other than the kitten :) We were all kinda tired from the journey ( not really actually xD ) so right after the briefing, most of us headed straight to the river for a refreshing bath. It was relatively easy though. We just needed to jump in, apply some shampoo and soap and just let the river do the rinsing and washing part. Mudah kan? :D

After the Maghrib prayer, we were grouped and told to prepare for our cultural performance. So, I was in the same group as Haziq, Adam, Amir Arsyad, Megat Imran, Nuraini, Natrah, Aishah, Fatihah, Izyan, Rowenna and Khairul Ain. We had a kinda bad start, I should say. Everyone had some ideas in mind and it was really hard to decide. That was this idea about students being in a class and discuss about modern songs and traditional songs. This was also this idea of a drama about a couple with the man who tried to commit suicide and some others. I just planned to go with the flow and didn't really wanted to be in the lead nor to make a decision so I was just listening.

However, after some time, it was somehow unbearable. Especially, when I noticed that something was definitely wrong with one of my teammate. So, I decided that it's time to speak up and make a decision as all that we did before we just giving out ideas and we hadn't really came out with a definite choice or conclusion. After a brief talk, I summarized the flow of our performance which in the end turned out be a drama using Nuraini's idea but in a different spin off and mixed with some other ideas.

Later, I headed straight to this friend who I mentioned earlier. I knew that something was wrong and indeed, somehow she felt bad right after the discussion. To be honest, I can really notice the change in someone and maybe that was why I could really understood her feelings. So I approached her, tried to talk to her about it and tried to make her feel better. The camp was only once in a year and it was our first uniformed bodies camp all-together so I really don't wanted her to be sad on a day when we were supposed to be happy. I tried to make her smile ( I think I do ) and I was kinda happy when somehow it seemed to work. I knew that there's still some left in her heart that she would had never expressed it but knowing that she would be okay after some time, I decided to let her take her time to cool down. Maybe I looked or acted weirdly at that time as I rarely showed that mutual side of me to people ever since I came to PERMATA and ever since an unforgettable incident ( I don't really want to about this ) , but at least I'd done my responsibility as a companion which was none other than to be by her side and made her happy. Well, maybe that was how I viewed it as.

Senyum please? xD

Then, everyone was queuing up for the barbecue ( BBQ ) chicken. I was hungry but somehow I don't really felt like queuing up and eating. I went inside of the hall and drank some water. However, the hunger was kinda unbearable anymore. I still had to eat something before the performance. Therefore, I just took a plate of fried rice, poured some chilly sauce and savored the meal silently. In a few minutes, I finished the meal and went outside to do the dishes. The long line of people, the slow water coming out of the pipe and the loads of dishes, I decided to take them all plus with the dish-washing detergent and brought them to the river with Talha and Azfar. It was much easier that way. I found a spot where the water was flowing quickly and steadily. Then, I sat on a big stone right at the riverside, took the heaps of plates and began my job as a brand new, temporary dishwasher :) Talha, on the other hand was washing the stacks of cup while Azfar helped holding the washed plates and glass. The waves of plates and glass did not stop coming until about 15 minutes later. Somehow, I enjoyed doing the dishes by the riverside while singing some totally random songs together with my friends. Haha, somehow it was kinda funny xD Thanks to some of them who stayed and offered their help by flashing their torchlight and sending the clean dishes back to the hall. By the time I got back to the hall, the ceremony had just started. I was sitting at the back of my group's line with Adam when a facilitator of the Kadet Polis suddenly came to me with 2 pieces of sausages and said , " Nah ambik ni akak bagi upah sebab awak lama basuh pinggan tadi :) " I felt kinda happy and appreciated. I was doing it sincerely and I did not really expect something in return. Alhamdulillah, what goes round comes round. A good deed deserves another. Those were the words that came in my mind at that time.

My group, the BBQ Fox was the second last group to perform and we did it so spontaneously. It was a mixture of drama, comedy, musical and else. Nuraini was the narrator and she did well in synchronizing the flow of the drama. Adam and I were like crazy that night, with all sorts of spontaneous stuffs coming out of our mouths. Everyone was laughing whenever we came out with something funny or crazy. Same goes to Haziq, who had really surprised almost everyone with his alter-ego personality alongside Khairul Ain. Rowenna also did great as a girl who was loved by 2 best friends. The singers, back-up and medical officers - Megat, Amir, Aishah, Izyan, Fatihah and Natrah also did their best in turning our performance into a great one! It was a really memorable moment and somehow I had the confidence that our performance was among the best performances at that night. The other groups also did great by performing confidently and creatively in their own ways. It was indeed a night to remember.

Fox! Well, our group name is actually The Fox but there was this other group that took the name only a few seconds before us -.- So we ended up with BBQ Fox :P

The following day, Sunday marked the end of our camp. After a little bit of marching/kawad session which was lead by me for the BSMM members, we went back into the hall for the Closing and Prize Giving Ceremony. There were some speeches being given and later came the time that everyone had been waiting for- the Prize Giving Ceremony! Every single team that performed last night was awarded with a hamper and and also an award which was unique to each team. Fortunately, my team was the overall runner-up and we got the 'Awesome Team' award :D We were really happy and grateful for that. The only down-side was that we needed to redo the whole act again that morning and almost everyone was like, how in the world could have we repeated something so spontaneous? Luckily, Adam came out with some new humors and I just entertained him all the way through xD

Later, we were given some time to had our last bath at the river and everyone jumped straight into our usual spot. We did all sorts of things - do water-break, take pictures, rope jumping, rock jumping and water splashing. We just did them all. Later, we cleaned our things and got ready to get back.

All in all, the camp was great! And I'm looking forward towards our Jati Diri Camp :D

p.s - I was actually inspired to make this post after I've read Nuraini Aguse's Post . Kinda jealous :P Haha
Thanks Aini ! For making me devote several hours on writing about the camp xD
